Dance & Teacher Training
Emily started dancing at age three in Oxfordshire with her four sisters. Her love for the artform blossomed over the years and in her early teens she began training in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Musical Theatre and Contemporary. She gained a distinction in her Advanced 1 ISTD Modern exam, along with a number of RAD and Cecchetti Ballet exams and ISTD Tap. At 17 Emily gained a place at Performers College in Essex where she trained in a variety of dance styles, as well as singing and acting. While training, she returned to Oxford every weekend to teach dance where her passion for dance teaching was first established.
After professional dance training, Emily began studying with the ISTD and holds a level 4 Diploma in Dance Education. Since gaining this qualification she has successfully helped a number of students to achieve their ISTD Modern Theatre exams. As well as training with the ISTD, Emily also gained a first class degree in Dance Education from the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance. Emily’s training provided a deep insight into dance education across the UK in a range of settings, as well as the challenges that exist within the industry. She has now worked as a dance teacher and choreographer for ten years, helping students of all ages reach their potential.
Ethos & Vision
Emily adopts a holistic approach to her teaching; believing that care and understanding of the person will in turn lead to improvement. She adores working with early years students and has designed her very own early years dance curriculum which she now aims to share with teachers across the country. She has also helped many students gain entry into dance programmes from school scholarships to professional dance training courses.
As well as this, Emily is highly experienced in working within a school setting with students of a range of abilities, who may not otherwise have experienced dance. She is passionate about the multitude of benefits of dance and believes that all students should have access to high quality dance provision within school. Most of all, Emily is passionate about the joy that dance can bring to all people. She cares deeply about making her classes accessible to as many people as possible and helping her students to develop a lifelong passion for movement.
This ethos is what gave rise to Love Dance and is at the centre of all its projects. Love Dance aims to offer pop up ‘pay what you can classes’, work within local communities to bring dance to people with SENDs and their carers, as well as launch Love Dance Company… a unique performance company for young people that brings dance performances to the community and aids in raising funds for local charities and organisations.
Emily’s goal is for Love Dance to spread joy through dance to as many people as possible and can’t wait to see where this journey leads.
